"I
never made my first $100 dollars, my first transaction was actually
to the tune of my first $250 dollars..."
I started off in the game as an MC, I was a member of a hip-hop
group back when I was in highschool. I was part of the early 90's
generation, so battling other MC's around town for supremacy was
a thing we did on a regular basis. Through some of those battles
I was actually able to foster quite a few relationships with MC's,
DJ's, promoters, A&R's and other industry affliated people.
As a result of not being able to find producers that could make
the type of tracks that I wanted to spit on, I decided to purchase
my first peice of equipment, (the SP-1200) and teach myself how
to make beats. I had a few other producer friends of mine that
also gave me some tips and insights on how to make beats so once
I got to the point where I felt confident in my abilities, I began
to shop my beat tapes. At the time there were no CD burners so
your best options for recording your beats was either use a cassette
or a DAT tape. Ahh, remember those days?
After shopping my beat tapes for awhile, I began to build up quite
a buzz for myself and decided to take it to the next level and
create my own independent music production company and thus, Maseed
Productions was born. My beat tapes passed through quite a few
hands and oddly enough, passed through the hands of a female R&B
singer of all people. This was pretty surprising to me considering
the fact that I based my reputation on being an underground hip-hop
producer never the less, it is what it is. There was a beat on
my tape that she fell in love with and about a week after officially
setting up shop, I sold my very first track. I never made my first
$100 dollars, my first sell was actually to the tune of $250 dollars
which was not bad considering I had only been in the game for
a short while.
In the early 90's, the internet was not the play ground of piracy
and file sharing that it is now, so it was relatively easy to
do non-exclusive deals for $250 on up. I continued to promote
Maseed Productions every chance I got. I would go to talent shows,
concerts, clubs, college venues; anywhere that I thought I would
find artist in need of production, I would be there. Maseed Productions
has been in business for almost 15 years now and since then has
gone on to work on several other projects for both independent
and major label artist.
Times are changing and so is the way that people are receiving
music. Now in 2008, Maseed Productions along with the help of
Allen Brown and sellmorebeats.com is preparing to take on the
"on-line beat selling market" with the same dedication
and enthusiasm as we did when Maseed was first founded back in
1994 by launching our new on-line beat selling website, THEBEATAUTHORITY.COM.
I highly encourage anyone that is serious about making money with
their music to subscribe to the sellmorebeats.com
on-line courses and watch it change every single perception of
selling beats on-line that you've ever had.
